Yoshi + Cube

Each year around November comes time for the most fun annual art show around: Famous Fictional. For this show, artists create a single or small series of pieces featuring famous and fictional characters that fit the year’s premise. The premise for 2012 was People, Places, and Things. Each piece of artwork would feature a place, object, or creature from a famous or fictional universe with the only rule that there could be no people.

One of my pieces was this set of crocheted sculptures. The duo of Yoshi (from Super Mario Brothers) and Companion Cube (from Portal) together represent the disposability of player companions in video games. Both pieces stand about two feet tall and are made completely freehand with yarn and stuffing.
